James Kopecky was born and raised in Chicago. James has been performing in the Bay Area for three years now. Before receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts at Butler University in 2010, he was primary member of Especially Tap Chicago, now known as the Cartier Collective. James has also performed Jazz Works choreographed by Elijah Gibson in the Chicago Land Area. At Butler, he was able to perform a variety of works, such as Paul Taylor’s Cloven Kingdom and Anthony Tudor’s Dark Elegies. After college, he joined Ballet San Jose as an apprentice. Since then, he has performed many different works such as: George Balanchine’s Who Cares, Dennis Nahat’s Swan Lake, and Stanton Welch’s Clear. James is now a Corps de Ballet member and is very excited to perform many more works at Ballet San Jose. James wants to share his passion for dance with his fellow students! He is looking forward to start teaching at Silicon Valley Dance Academy this summer!
